Stingray. Stingray occur in tropical, near-shore waters throughout the world. Stingrays are closely related to Sharks and Skates, and there are several varieties--some of which are considered vulnerable or endangered. Stingrays have a barbed spine located near the base of their tail which is used for defensive purposes. The largest of the Stingray species may have a wingspan of up to 6-feet.
