Sheepshead. The Sheepshead occurs from the Mid-Atlantic states to Texas and are commonly found in and around rocky bottoms and oyster bars, or places with obstructions such as seawalls, navigation markers and piers. The Florida State Record for sheepshead taken on rod and reel is 12-pounds, 2 ounces, but they can weigh up to over 20-pounds. A member of the Porgy family, sheepsheads have unusualy shaped flat teeth that crush and grind their food, which often consists of hard shelled mollusks.
