Escolar Mounts. Escolar is the name given to a fish that occurs in in deep tropical and temperate waters around the world. When molding the current world record, I noticed that the escolar has a combination of features found on other fish including large eye that is shaped like a thresher shark, a kingfish shaped body with a wahoo shaped dorsal fin, with a set of second dorsal and anal finlets that seem to be an example of evolution in process: There is a large gap between the last finlet and the tail, and the last finlet seems to be growing a second main bone. Known to cause a case of the runs, escolar is a fine tasting fish, but saavy connoisseurs don't take often chances.

The current I.G.F.A. World Record Escolar was landed in the Cayman Islands by Charles Eubanks while fishing offshore for swordfish. After missing a strike, the bait was checked and found to be mangled. It was dropped again and taken on the way down. This fish was nearly twice the size of any previously recorded fish of this species. It was molded during the night in a local boatyard, the mold being cracked open just before dawn.
