Coho Salmon Mounts. Coho are endemic to the Pacific Ocean and the rivers flowing into it from northern Japan to the Anadyr River in Russia, and from Point Hope, Alaska south to Monterey Bay, California. It has been introduced also into many parts of the world. It can be distinguished from the Chinook, steelhead and rainbow by the fact that it has spots on the upper half of the tail, while the latter have spots over the entire tail. During spawning males develop a red stripe aloing the sides, like a rainbow. An estimated 85 percent of native Pacific Coho Salmon return to spawn in the same stream where they began their life.
